Barbara Andresen, age 88, died peacefully surrounded by family and the thoughts and prayers of those who loved her. She was born in 1924 in Baraga MI. During WWII she worked as a Rosie The Riveter in Detroit. Following the war she moved to Chicago where she met and married the love of her life, Doug Andresen. They raised their family of 6 children in Des Plaines and Arlington Hts. before moving to Oak Trace in Downers Grove in 2006. Barbara worked for over 20 years in a dental office, a tenure that was interrupted by 18 years as she raised her family. She loved to bake, sew, refinish furniture and go garage saling with her friends. Most of all she loved her husband of 61 years, Doug.
She is survived by Doug and her children, James (Joan) Andresen of Elgin, Susie (Kevin) Shields of LaGrange, Jeanne Messick of Frankfort Square, Tom (Sue) Andresen of Edwardsville, Michael (Susan) Andresen of Bloomington and Kathleen (Dave) Gabriel of Arlington Hts.; 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bud McMahon of Levering, MI and Bill McMahon of Minneapolis, MN.
Visitation is Thurs from 3:00PM to 8:00PM at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. (1 blk So of Ogden) Downers Grove. Funeral Mass is Friday 10 am at St. Mary of Gostyn Church, Prairie & Douglas Sts., Downers Grove. Interment is at St. Michael Cemetery, Palatine.
